Defensive Tactics Courses

Law Enforcement Ground Fighting (1,2,3, or 4 days):
WTG is proud to announce our newest course. Mixed Martial Arts is the fastest growing sport in the United States. Since most law enforcement altercations end up on the ground, we have developed a course to bridge the gap between basic defensive tactics and what is needed to survive on our streets. This course is a crash course in the essentials of ground fighting for law enforcement officers. Because law enforcement officers don't have time to learn complicated techniques, we have developed a course that enables officers to to quickly learn to gain the superior position and subdue an assailant on the ground.

Officers will learn the key points of control, submission and escape from the guard, mount and side mount positions as well as reversals from the guard. You will also learn important ground combat skills like recovery from the ground, weapon retention on the ground, taking down a noncompliant suspect, defending a takedown with the sprawl and using striking skills on the ground. Officers will also learn throws, basic striking, joint locks, and many other techniques needed to defend themselves during a confrontation.

The lead instructors hold black belts in Jiu Jitsu.  We can tailor this course to your individual department needs.  Minimum of 10 students per course.  Courses can be designed to be 1 to 5 days. Host Agency must supply a matted surface for the course.  Contact us today for pricing.

Tactical Courses (Lecture Based)

Patrol Response to Barricade or Hostage Situations (4 hours)
This course is designed for patrol supervisors to help them better prepare for calls for service which evolve into barricade subjects or hostage situations.  The initial response to these incidents set the tone for how successful they be resolved.  Areas of instruction will include establishment of the incident command system, containment, breaching, mapping, diagramming, documenting and special considerations.  Seamless transition from the Patrol Division to your Tactical Team is the goal in each of these incidents.  After completing this course each supervisor will never worry about controlling these incidents again.

Predator Mind and the Warrior Mindset (4 or 8 hours):
This course revolves around teaching and preparing police officers to use lethal force.  The use of lethal force is far more involved than just using a weapon to stop a threat.  We recognized that standard police firearms training failed to take into account the mental aspect of possibly taking someone else's life.  Many police officers are killed each year because they have failed to prepare themselves for the ultimate.  Using information gleaned from Lt Col David Grossman, Kenneth Murray and Bruce Siddle, along with personal research and countless interviews we have developed a one of a kind course which every police officer should attend.  This will prepare officers for not only the use of lethal force, but help them survive mentally and physically after the confrontation.  This course can be taught as a 4 hour, or 8 hour course.  It is also incorporated into our 2 day Active Shooter Course. This course exceeds the Maryland Police and Correctional Trainings 2009 mandate that all officers be given some sort of mental preparation course during firearms in-service.  This class has been approved by MPCTC and In-service credit may be available.

Overview and Psychological Response to Active Shooters (16 hours):
During this 16 hour course students will be lead through multiple active shooter incidents which have occurred in schools, colleges and work places.  Table top exercises and group discussions are a key interactive portion of this course.  In addition, the tragic events which took place in Beslan, Russia will be extensively discussed using information gleaned from the worlds leading expert on the take over, John Giduck.  During the second day of the course preparation and equipment needs will be discussed as well as the mindset needed to deal with before and after an active shooter event.  THIS IS NOT AN ACTIVE SHOOTER TACTICS COURSE.  We specifically deal with the mental preparation which is needed to prepare an officer or agency for an active shooter incident.  In addition this course is designed to mentally prepare officers for the worst and give them the mental tools which are needed to response, destroy and survive after the incident.

Incident Command for Active Shooter Incidents (16 hours):
After years of teaching Active Shooter tactics, we discovered no one was discussing how to control and manage resources outside of the inner perimeter.  After completing this course students will understand the complexities of controlling multiple resources at any large scale incident utilizing the Incident Command System.  Through unique use of lecture, hands on and table top exercises, this course will ensure each student leaves with the ability and confidence to immediately command any active shooter or other large scale response.

EMS Response to Active Shooter Incidents (16 hours)
During this 16 hour course, students will discuss and review multiple active shooter incidents which have occurred in schools, colleges, and work places. Table top exercises and group discussions are a key interactive portion of this course. In addition, the tragic events which took place in Beslan, Russia will be extensively discussed using information gleaned from the Worlds leading expert on the take over, John Giduck. During the second day of the course, emergency medical personnel will be led through a comprehensive hands-on field trauma course. Tactical escorted entry into Hot/Warm Zones, along with "load and go" techniques, T-CCC trauma techniques, and MCI triage will be taught both in the classroom and utilized during an hands on exercise.  Topics covered will include aggressive trauma care as well as the pre and post incident mental mindset that the provider must have to deal with these types of incidents.

THIS IS NOT AN ACTIVE SHOOTER POLICE TACTICS COURSE. We specifically deal with the mental preparation and medical techniques which will be needed to prepare the emergency responder for an active shooter incident. This course is designed to mentally prepare emergency responders for the worst case scenario and give them the mental tools which are needed to respond, act, and survive after the incident.

Homeland Security Courses:

Improvised Explosive Devices Awareness:
This presentation is designed to give law enforcement officers an insight of the various types of improvised explosive weapon systems, along with deployment tactics currently used by world-wide terrorists and criminal organizations. The goal of this presentation is to heighten officer indicator awareness to the potential threat of various IED’s and encourage a multi-discipline and multi-jursidictional support approach.

Clandestine Lab Identification:
Clandestine labs can pose significant hazards to communities, the environment, and anyone who comes in contact with them. This class will concentrate on the recognition and identification of signs that may indicate the presence of a meth or improvised explosive lab in your community, the hazards of the chemical precursors used in the production of methamphetamine or TATP, as well as procedures for a safe response.

Jihadist Active Shooters (1 to 4 hours):
During March of 2010, the “American Al Qaeda” Adam Gadahn empowered all Jihadists to take up arms against the West by attacking soft targets using simple, high probability of success, attacks which take little to no training.  This is not a new phenomenon.  During this course the history of these attacks will be discussed along with the psychology of the attacker from a religious point of view, which is an in-site to how we can deal with these incidents.

Investigations Courses (Lecture Based)

Introduction to Criminal De-Briefings (8 hours):
During this course officers will be introduced to criminal de-briefings and explained the importance of collecting, vetting and disseminating vital information which may be obtained from a simple interview. Students will quickly understand through this course that each and every citizen contact is a valuable source of information in conducting proactive criminal patrol. Students will be exposed to success stories resulting from the most basic to complex interviews which have lead to development of gang information, narcotics intelligence, burglary closures and murder prosecution. Case law, documentation, vetting and dissemination issues will be discussed to help students and their agencies implement the process in the Criminal Patrol model.

Basic Patrol Officers Surveillance (8 or 16 hours):
This course has been designed to give patrol officers and detectives the information and training needed to conduct vehicle and building surveillance. We have discovered that this basic but fundamental skill has not been taught to many of our officers attempting to conduct proactive criminal patrol.  During this hands on course students will be schooled in communications, operation plans, driving techniques, and surveillance techniques needed to trail or watch subjects from a distances, but still be close enough to obtain much needed information for a conviction. Considerations for both uniformed and plain clothes functions will be addressed.

Conducting Investigations Using Social Networking Sites (8 hours):
With the rise in popularity of social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook, law enforcement has been left to play catch up when it comes to using these great investigatory resources. These social network sites are a valuable open source information in the investigation of street level and organized crime.  After completing this course, students will be able to navigate these sites with ease, conduct internet surveillance, obtain intelligence and write search warrants for information developed. The requirements for a summons/subpoena versus a search warrant will be discussed and how the information obtained can be used in criminal proceedings. Students will be provided with contact information, formats for preservation letters and summons/subpoenas acceptable for quick response from the sites and example search warrants.
